Sep.26.- The newly-inaugurated Cabinet of Prime Minister Taro Aso has the support of 49.5 % of eligible voters, while 33.4 % disapprove of it, according to a Yomiuri Shimbun poll. The figure was less than the 57.5 % support recorded immediately after the inauguration of former Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda's first Cabinet. The nationwide telephone opinion poll was taken Wednesday and Thursday. Of 1,847 surveyed, 1,080, or 58.5 %, gave valid answers. Asked to decide which of Aso or Democratic Party of Japan President Ichiro Ozawa would make a better prime minister, 54 % said they preferred Aso, compared with 26 % who plumped for Ozawa. Asked which party they planned to vote for in the proportional representation system in the next House of Representatives election, 37 % said the Liberal Democratic Party while 30 % chose the DPJ. The figures suggest Aso's personal popularity compared with Ozawa is not necessarily being reflected in voters' party preferences.
