Alan Garcia 52.57% (6'795,584 valid votes)
Ollanta Humala 47.42% (6'129,318 valid votes)
666,266 votes between candidates

Alan García (Apra) 24.30%
Lourdes Flores (UN) 23.71%

Humala, a populist ex-army officer in the mold of Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez, has frightened middle- and upper-class Peruvians with pledges to radically redistribute Peru's wealth.

Garcia won a second chance to govern after a 1985-90 administration marked by hyperinflation and a bloody insurgency by extreme-left guerrillas.
