A New Light for Cuba: MCL Presents Law for Amnesty and Law for Reunification - 2008/01/09 18:29 A NEW LIGHT FOR CUBA

The Christian Liberation Movement presents a Law of Amnesty and a Law of Reconciliation

Because Cuba is the Homeland and home of all Cubans,

Because we are one people,

Because all Cubans are brothers and we wish to live free and in peace,

Because the great Cuban family and each Cuban family wants to and should reunite freely, and in fraternal love, and as long as this reunification is not happening, Cubans are not happy,

Because the path towards reconciliation among all, which our people yearn for, is the path of respect for the rights of Cubans,

We present today proposals for a Law of Amnesty for the peaceful political prisoners and a Law of National Reunification.

We know that there is a diversity of experiences among our people and therefore different visions of the past and of the present. Different visions about the future of Cuba also exist. But what we should agree upon is the fact that the laws should guarantee the rights of everyone. It is not enough that the laws be changed; the most important thing is that we all open our minds and hearts to identify in each Cuban a brother. But only if the laws guarantee all rights for all Cubans will an environment of dialogue and confidence emerge so that we Cubans can look together toward the future and so that the new generation will be able to travel the path of their own era with peace and freedom.

The Deputies of the National Assembly of People’s Power have not only the legal capacity, but also the human capacity, to carry out these steps, that would allow for national reunification and the return home of those Cubans that are now prisoners in Cuba. And it is from these human categorizations, which can always overcome political categorizations without denying the convictions of each individual, through which we call upon the deputies to discuss these proposals, so that they, in their legislative functions, can improve and pass the laws that we are proposing.

Taking these steps does not harm any Cuban, while it does free many Cubans from suffering for what is good and just for our people, for He is only one, of whom we are all children without exclusions.

We have faith that Christmas, especially in Cuba, always brings, with the Good News of the birth of Jesus, an air of peace and generosity for all people, believers and non believers alike. We ask all Cubans, who live within and outside of Cuba, especially the deputies, to unite their good will and to those that are believers, also their prayers, so that Cuba brings in the New Year with news of Amnesty and National Reunification.

We hope that the joy of peace and fraternity comes to all Cubans this Christmas.

May God bless the people of Cuba and all people around the world in the New Year and always.
