Re:SPRINGTIME FOR CHE... - 2006/04/07 13:13 On the matter of that nefarious and tragic comic book character, Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, aka, "Che," my thinking is clear and I gladly add a recent statement to this stream of information in case you missed it in the Miami Herald. Guevara's apotheosis is understandable. It breeds in the same recalcitrant ignorance of history and relentless mythomania that accounts for Castro's still considerable popularity among some sectors of academic and public opinion. Guevara, after all, died young, died a martyr, and had the benefit of great timing and a remarkable iconography. People who deal with him in this guise cannot accept the fact that he was both a narcissistic jerk and a bit of a monster. Time will, I hope put him in his place. Meanwhile, he will go on selling tshirts to prove once agian, if it needed proof, that our civilization is in a phase both decadent and irrational. Tell me whom you worship as a hero and I'll tell who--or what--you are.
