On the Us 2008 Presidential Election
My name is Luis Baralt and I am an American living abroad for work and family reasons.
My views on our coming presidential election revolve around a personal decalog which I'll try to describe as follows:
- The highest value is TRUTH
- TRUTH is not absolute; it is a highly complex multi-dimensional value combining Time, Angle, Personal make-up and Mystery
- Mystery is what characterizes the designs of a MAKER -- God, Allah, Nirvana or Nothing-Whatsoever, that is, what all kinds of believers, or unbelievers, may wish to call a Superior Being or its lack
- It is the citizens' duty to try to determine TRUTH as embodied in the alternative candidacies offered up for inspection and choice
- The essence of Democracy is that, after careful inspection and choice, the candidacy with a majority backing is the winner, and at that point it embodies Truth, no matter which one wins
- Therefor, my point that Time is part of the fascinating brew which makes up Truth -- there's a TRUTH before 11/4 and a TRUTH after 11/4
- The second dimension of the brew is the Angle from which the citizen views the context: in my case, I view it from beyond frontiers, from a well formed economics and political science background and from the experience of age -- And I continue to value the wisdom and experience of our elders
- The third dimension of the brew is the citizen's Personal make-up -- mine is that of a believer in a Superior Being and the utter unmeasurability of the Mystery of It's ways
- The fourth dimension of TRUTH is that same Mystery above cited -- that is, no matter what my choice may be, I'm prepared to accept the outcome of the process and support our new President and his administration as the true embodiment of the People's choice whoever they may turn out to be -- Who can read the ways of the Lord?
- The above said, I'm truly convinced that at this time, that is, prior to November 4th., there's absolutely no question that Senator McCain and Governor Palin are the infinitely better choice over their competitors.
The above decalog is of course a basic statement of the necessary provisos to make a choice. As to the pros and cons dealt to each alternative, it's just a matter for every citizen to draw a "Darwin"-type two-columned list and proceed to effect his or her assessment. I've made mine carefully and I've come to the above decision spelled out under point 10.
There's one more proviso, however, and that is that no good citizen should stay home or fail to send in the absentee ballott.
